Is your Shed – ShedSafe?

1 December 2010
Fair Dinkum Homes & Sheds, one Australia’s leading distributors of residential garages, carports, barns, farm sheds and industrial and commercial buildings, is leading the industry to be one of the first businesses to receive The Australian Steel Institute’s (ASI) new industry benchmark for steel sheds – ShedSafe™.

ShedSafe™ accreditation, which was officially launched in November 2010, came about after the ASI learned that most sheds that had structural failures during cyclone Larry in 2006, were not built to the standards set by the Building Code of Australia (BCA). Evidence of under-engineered sheds has also been discovered in areas across Australia.

ShedSafe™ accreditation means that companies such as Fair Dinkum Homes & Sheds ensure that all guidelines set by the BCA are adhered to in the design of your shed, barn or garage.

ShedSafe™ accreditation cannot be purchased - it has to be earned and Fair Dinkum Homes & Sheds underwent a rigorous independent auditing and certification process by an ASI appointed panel of independent engineers and specialists.

Being ShedSafe™ accredited is a commitment that buildings designed for each of the 130 nationwide distributors of Fair Dinkum Homes & Sheds adhere to and complies with the Building Code of Australia (BCA).

“In the past, shopping around for a shed has been a time consuming an confusing process for consumers,” says Travis Griffin, Business Manager, Fair Dinkum Homes & Sheds.

“Luckily the ASI has done the leg work by implementing ShedSafe™, so consumers no longer need to navigate the complexities of building codes as it has all been researched and tested for them,” he says.

“At Fair Dinkum Homes & Sheds our motto is ‘real sheds, real value’ and the ShedSafe™ accreditation is another reason why we are Australia’s leading distributor of steel structures. If you are dealing with a company that is not ShedSafe™ accredited, you should ask them why?”.

Primarily, ShedSafe™ is about safety for the consumer and it serves to protect the investment in a shed and its contents. Consumers can be confident in the fact that Fair Dinkum Homes & Sheds ensure that all standards set by the BCA are incorporated into the design process of each shed. They are able to provide a shed design suitable to specific sites and locations, whilst also taking into account anticipated usage and environmental factors such as wind load on the structure.

“We are extremely proud that we are one of the first businesses in Australia to receive ShedSafe™ accreditation,” says Travis Griffin.

“Being a ShedSafe™ accredited member means that we provide certified ShedSafe™ designs that comply with the standards set by the BCA to all of our distributors.”

From Bendigo to Bundaberg, Alexandria to Alice Springs, Fair Dinkum Homes & Sheds has a local distributor that can supply a range of residential garages and carports, barns, farm sheds and industrial and commercial buildings to suit everyone’s needs.

But there is no such thing as a standard Fair Dinkum Shed. All designs can be customised according to the customers’ needs using their exclusive MultiBuild® software. This allows you to change the design on the spot as well as incorporate options such as sliding or roller doors, personal access doors, garaports, lean-to’s, mezzanine floors and more. MultiBuild® software will update your quote and drawings instantly based on ShedSafe™ engineering principles so you are assured your customisation requirements do not impact the safety of the structure.
